In the beginning...

... there was light... Well, 9 lights actually... and a few hurried calls to the electricity company with requests to PLEASE CONNECT MY ELECTRICITY!

The keys to my new address were dropped off to my house last Tuesday by a very friendly guy from the real estate agent. He, rather unceremoniously, muttered a 'congratulations... geez it's hot today, isn't it??' before disappearing in his bmw. I stood in the doorway looking at the keys in my hand and, for the first time, started to realize I had my own house. I promptly went over to the house to check it out again - and again started to have some mild panic attacks over the fact that I'd just purchased a house on my own and would have to do a huge amount of work to get it fixed up.

So here's a brief tour in pictures of the house... lots of 'before' images...

The next morning saw the beginning of a very busy day - day 1 of the renovations! - electrician coming at 7:30am, bathroom quote at 10am, locksmith at 1pm, insulation quote at 3pm and lots and lots and LOTS of cleaning to do. The 40 degree heatwave that had hit Sydney that week also didn't help much but with some helpful assistance with babysitting and a few cold drinks, the day went more or less smoothly.

So at the end of day 1, we had light (thank you mr electrician!).

... and I was feeling a little "God-like" - I 'created' light on the first day too!
"In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth,
the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep,
while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.
Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
And God saw that the light was good;
and God separated the light from the darkness.
God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night.
And there was evening and there was morning, the first day." (Genesis 1:1-5)

"And there was evening and there was morning"...
